Feeling Confused about Time

Feeling confused about time
Yesterday I was twenty three
Running on the spot, feeling ashamed
Young blood flowed out through cuts
A caustic youth, I wilted and waned
As friends grew wings and flew away
I watched and they didn’t look back
My hands are old, there’s the proof
Memories sting the mind's eye clear
Despite all this I know even less
And those people who left me
I blink and they are still here
It can’t have been that long
Just last week I watched them wave
From a window framed in my heart
All days gone by are yesterdays
Disordered files blindly gripped
But lucid through my lense
And there’s no looking away
Observed from the distance of time
The image only grows and grows
And it’s us who become small
Friends buried deep under decades
May return in the fluke flash of fate
And at once we thaw and glow
The window of time is just ice
It melts away and is no match
For what we feel and know
The constant fire of human bonds
My bones ache on weary days
But it’s gravity not time and still
I want to run, to carve this atmosphere
Like my forebears cut a groove
From first light until the last flickers
Waiting for the dark and you realise
It’s not time, it’s the light
And the light was always inside

yes, indeed, no confusion
yes, indeed, no confusion here. Only words of wisdom. mind's eye crystal clear is a bit cliched. Apart from that wonderful.

This is absolutely beautiful,
This is absolutely beautiful, and the idea of the window in the heart is brilliant.
I've learned something too - at first I thought 'lense' was a typo for 'lens', then I googled and found it's to do with the focal length of the lens...or something... so a bit of education on a Sunday morning!

Hi Jane,
Hi Jane,
I love the sense of reminiscence in this poem, reflecting on life and people. There's such a longing that I could identify with.
An inspiring poem indeed.
Jenny.

I loved this. It's really
I loved this. It's really beautiful. You managed to convey the everyday passing of time, eg in your hands, and the timelessness of what lasts.

An apt description of life
An apt description of life told with inciteful words. Well done.

this is one of those you find
this is one of those you find new bits in each time. So far my favourites are
Despite all this I know even less (I miss being so sure what the right thing to do was when I was younger)
Disordered files blindly gripped (reminds me of clear memories in confused timelines)
Friends buried deep under decades ( I like so much that you make time passing a solid thing sort of like clutter piling up over something important)
we thaw and glow/The window of time is just ice (so hopeful, positive, and time being an ice window is BEAUTIFUL)
And the light was always inside (this is so uplifting, comforting. I hope I can find this poem again)
