Moses, The Spider Slayer!

Recently we sold some kittens, they were all lovely with their own personal, playful, personalities, we were confident they all went to wonderful homes, we knew this when people said to us, “We’ve just spent £80 on a cat bed, scratching posts tower, and £20 on kitten food and milk.” Another came with a posh looking cat carrier, with blanket and toys, they were all lovely People. Quickly all the kittens were gone.
Then a week last Sunday after I’d been to my Place of Worship, I returned home and my Husband Paul was sitting at the front in the garden having a fag, and he said to me, “You’ll never in a million years guess what has happened.” When he came indoors he told me, “I got up after you left, and I could hear a kitten crying, I couldn’t find the kitten, it wasn’t until shortly after when I went out the front to have a fag, did I see on our front door step, a cubed plastic box, the kitten was in there!”
And there he was, “Eyebrows,” As I’d affectionally called him, for he has the longest whiskers and eyebrows, and oh, so cute! We checked him over, he seemed OK, his box was like the shape of a cube, approximately 15” wide, and high, he was placed in the softest, loveliest blanket you’d ever seen and felt! But, what would have happened if a teenager with intent was passing by or a dog? It would have certainly been curtains, for Eyebrows, for sure!
We didn’t know who’d returned him, there was no note, no phone call, no text and with all Paul had said to them, “Any problems or questions you may have, just give me a call or text.” Why didn’t they do that? We thought maybe their Partner wasn’t consulted first, and when the kitten was brought to his new home, the Partner said, “No! Return it!” We, also thought maybe they already had a cat and they didn’t get on, or maybe they thought we wouldn’t have given them their money back, but we would have, for the kitten’s welfare is paramount to us.
He wasn’t starving, he enjoyed his lunch and milk, we checked his poo all seemed fine. We sort of scratched our heads, metaphorically speaking, as to why? Then Paul made a very good point, they could have thrown Eyebrows into the lake, but instead they brought him back to us. And that WAS a very good point indeed! For he was safe, but if someone had come along and taken the box, we’d never had known Eyebrow’s fate. So, really, he was on his own in the very soft plastic box for about an hour, it was zipped up but not fully so he could breathe, or escape.
He settled in well with the other cats, for he was with his Mum again and he played with Jonathan our youngest cat, they often kipped together. A few days after he came back to us, I thought what can I call him, and in a flash, it came to me Moses! He too was found in a basket, he was crying and alone. Moses really suited him, each morning I’d feed him on his own, so the adults wouldn’t eat his baby food, but he’d cry for he wanted to be in the kitchen with the others! The adult cats wanted to eat his food as they thought the kitten’s food was better than theirs. So, I decided to feed them together, and he’d purr the loudest! He was such a lovely kitten.
He was put on the site for sale, and he was quickly snapped up, it was arranged that he’d be collected the following day. I was asleep on the sofa, like I usually am in the evenings, when I heard a growl, I opened my eyes and Moses was guarding something as Jonathan looked on nearby, making sure to keep his distance. I was curious as to what it could be and to my horror I saw it!
The spider I’d seen on the cream wall of our living room a few nights ago, and I’d called Paul from the front room to, “Come and get it,” And as I looked on with hidden fear, I added, “Don’t let it drop,” But to my dismay, it fell to the ground!!!! Now as I watched, it was quite a large curled up spider, I wasn’t sure if it was dead or not, but Moses was patting it, jumping on it, and putting it in his mouth! It was dead and he was having fun, I did feel sorry for the spider, if I thought it was alive, I’d have got Paul to come and save it, but it was clearly gone. I then renamed Moses, the Spider Slayer! He was my little hero, on his final evening in our home.
