Plastic, pottery, gimcrack-brummagem-metal
gleaming like fools gold.
Littlefingered shapes in drawers
at the back under batteries
and unwanted business cards.
Named and shamed for holiday destinations;
proudly bought in Antrim,
Pwllheli, Saltcoats or Cromer,
in the special display box
on the patterned paper wall.
Found with bobbins and the pinking shears,
a pin-tacked-pattern on silk.
An almost frock, or a pinafore
in the upholstered stool,
your mother’s sewing box.

Hello Ewan,
Hello Ewan,
This sewing box sounds like it could be mine. I got five out of a hundred for needlework when I was at school. The teacher wrote in my report, 'Seems uninterested.' You, however, have made this poem very interesting. Although I am no poet, one doesn't need to be to enjoy this.
