Dear Santa, 

 

(it’s come to this -

I’m writing to a fictional symbol

of a holiday masquerading Christian,

dressed in pagan clothing,

sending him this list; 

 

please grant my greatest wish...)

 

 

Please publish me in a magazine,

please, an article - a whole page.

Please make the photos flattering 

and don’t publish my real age.

 

Please make my Instagram popular,

with my fun and wit and curves.

Let my pictures appeal to all

except fetishists or perves’.

 

Please have a video go viral,

make me a YouTube star.

Please keep away the trolls,

make me unique and not bizarre.

 

Please make my Facebook stand out,

let me be THE lifestyle school.

Please help my tweet the perfect phrase,

so I look wise and not a fool.

 

Dear Santa, please let me be seen,

instil me in someone’s heart.

Let someone click to ‘like’ me,

not just now but til’ death do us part.

 

Santa, if I could have one more thing,

just grant me this little wish,

let someone soften when they see me

and bestow me a tender kiss.

 

Santa, I know I ask a lot,

I don’t want to be the best...

I’m lonely and I want love

just like all the rest.

Cuts sharp on how selfish desires often are, maybe partly because of insecurity, but it isn't really the way to bolster that sense of worth, more comes by thinking of others needs more and giving out encouragement, and so establishing two way friendships.

Made me think of a verse in James' letter in the New Testament concerning requests to the real one who can help: 'You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.' (James 4:2,3)

Thank you for your comment. I think it often appears vanity and selfishness but I think everyone is trying desperately to prove their existence. They want to be seen and heard and to have someone say that they mean something and are significant. But you’re right, it’s not the best way to achieve their goal and everyone is shouting so loud hat they exist that no one can hear anyone else.
