On Wednesdays I go to the park

And whatever the genre of weather

I enjoy a lie down on the grass

And I blow kisses to my whippets

Some people stop to say hello

I give them dirty looks just coz.

A rabbit went by lippety, lippety

And the dogs ran away to hunt it

 

The whippets they don’t tend to bark

They’re top dogs and we’re always together

I enjoy a lie down on my arse

And I listen out for the snippets

Mutterings of a strange fellow

Hair on his head like brillo fuzz

He looked at me and said I was whippety

I poked him with my stake and blunt it

 

Whippets were first on Noah’s ark

He tickled them on board with a feather

They’re the greyhounds of the working class

Eat grey squirrel cut into strippets

Then bring up bile of bright yellow

The black one that’s just what he does

And at tea time he has just a sip o’ tea

He’s thin but he will not confront it

Hi Jane, I was hearing lyrics as I read this, It had the feel of a rap about it. Hope you don't find this as an insult, it wasn't meant to be.

Yes, you're right, it could work as a rap. I once posted a rap on here many years ago, it was called Lorry Man, man with a lorry, cut into my lane and he never said sorry...Thanks for commenting Jenny x

I remember the lorry one, it was very funny :0) Have your whippets really caught squirrels??? My lurcher never did, but would sing/yelp/whine under trees as if his enthusiasm would make them fall out dazed. Whippets are the most beautiful creatures aren't they? Are they aweful about chasing cats and well everything? I had forgotten he used to like tea, thankyou for reminding me of that

Hi Di_Hard actually one of my whippets, the black one with the yellow bile issue, once caught a squirrel and it bit his elbow causing a gaping hole. Both of mine chase but they know not to catch because they can come off worse. We have two young cats now and they all huddle together because the cats are super confident although if a strange cat comes into our garden the whippets do turn aggressive. They are lovely dogs, adorable in fact. I am most flattered that you remember Lorry Manlaugh

Eight-lines stanzas. I am impressed, Jane. I thought the poem very amusing, what with the lippety lippety rabbits and the strange fellow with the brillo fuzz, not forgetting the main protagonists, the whippets. Brilliant.

Thanks Luigi. I stole lippety lippety from Beatrix Potter I'm afraid. The theme, Rimus Dissolutas seems to have got me writing autobiographically, maybe it's because I keep repeating the same mistakes in every stanza of my life.
