How cruel life
Proceeds as
Fate deals that
Mighty blow,
Homelands
Washed away
On tides of
Uncertainty,
We'll watch with
Heavy hearts those
Waking hours
Pass in void –
Glimpse cherished,
Fragile mishmash
Beaten with no
Mortal to blame,
Only tenacious
Winds know why
Those pernicious
Acts are performed,
Commanding
Helter-skelter
That summons
Anguish,
Hear how
Wailing
Rapes
Landscape,
Whips cracking
Each blessed
Home till all
That's left is despair.
Bosom of family
Brought to its
Trembling knees
By devastation,
Searching for that
Keepsake, a special
Object that says
All is not lost.

We have so little real
We have so little real trouble with weather woes here! The 'wailing' and 'whipping' of the winds was very evocative.
Hearing of its coming I remember just lifting up in prayer those people, and I gather there was more useful preparation than in the past and much saving of lives as a result. I'm sure those alive are not too sad if it only their little treasures that are lost, but must help each other rebuild. Rhiannon

"Glimpse cherished,
"Glimpse cherished,
Fragile mishmash
Beaten"
these lines are so true Jenny. To come out of the safe place and find everything gone, no water, electricity, no work, shelter, food. It must be like being on another planet. How to even begin to make a place you can live. And trying to look after children in all that, or old people. Your poem gives a strong feeling of the hugeness of the storm, with a ray of sunshine at the end
