Head Full Of Dreams

Every writer has a gem
they wish to share
coming out of visions
exposing their flair,
some are like diamonds
glimmer and shine
few are full of promise
as if from goldmine,
squirrels hide and lose
treasured garden stuff
as ideas can be lost if
not exposed fast enough,
I slip into dreams
sail through the night
visualize each planet
a star sequined light,
breezes wave invisibly
at full moon as I pass
casting shadows below
on dew kissed grass,
darkness consumes
every image I project
till ready to display
soul will protect.

I don't think all my sleeping
I don't think all my sleeping dreams are gems, but it certainly seems true that thoughts you feel are worth sharing and 'hide away' to think about later can get lost like a squirrel's hoard. Rhiannon

Pleasant dreams are the ones
Pleasant dreams are the ones we remember vividly but we are also likely to have nightmares that we prefer to suppress. It can be an analogy of life itself, Jenny. The dreams, I believe, are the good things that we relish and wish to share with friends (the 'gem') while the nightmares represent adverse conditions. They both create ideas ('visions') which writers want to share but tackle differently either with romantic poetry or gritty prose.
The squirrel metaphor is an apt one, it is important not to let the imagination evaporate.
Talking of which, in the first line of the third verse should it not be 'lose' rather than 'loose'?
Well done on the cherries, Luigi xx

Yes Jenny, it is a good idea
Yes Jenny, it is a good idea to always have a notebook ready "as ideas can be lost if not exposed long enough". Well said. I also often forget new ideas it can be frustrating hey?! And those elusive sweet daydreams ... that you learn at school.
Sweet dreams! Keep your feet on the ground and reach for the stars!

Hi Jenny,
Hi Jenny,
I too have this failing- thoughts ramble through and if I don't capture them immediately they are gone like the white seeds of a dandelion blown away in the wind...I can definitely see the squirrel in me too searching for that buried nut. Your words are perfect, this is so well written and I am sure every writer will see the truth in this poem. Loved it - well deserved cherries too.

like everyone else says, the squirrel and forgottem nut rings true for me, too. But also how I forget I've planted bulbs and then it's a lovely surprise when they come up, like in your last stanza

Jenny I've just read
Jenny I've just read "A writers notebook" by Ralph Fletcher. It is for teenagers I think but well worthwile. It has very useful advice. There are many books on writing this one I found in a second-hand book shop. It is a good thing to encourage youngsters to write and even more, to read!
Keep well! Tom
