You think the time is to too slow
when waiting to reach adulthood
by becoming eighteen years-old.
You sense independence is good
and believe it's important to hold
the key to your own front door.
When the desired date arrives
you embark on an ongoing trip
at a pace that you hardly notice.
Time might appear to be static
but clocks tick metronomically
You will start work as a novice
but all of a sudden you will find
you have achieved a milestone:
after over fifty years of service
you no longer work for a master
and as you neared retirement
felt that time was going faster
and that it had not stood still.

I didn't realise there was a word for that! Like also comparing the sense of time seeming to drag when waiting for an approaching treat or visit, compared to waiting for the dental extraction appointment? Rhiannon

Hi Rhiannon,
following onemorething's footsteps I ventured into the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows and the first random word presented to me was Zenosyne which was defined as "The sense that times keeps going faster".
All I had to do was to find a suitable narrative that made sense. I hope I have succeeded.

I am reaching retirement, Luigi. Actually, I'm old enough to retire, but my pocket book says , 'No. You'll wait till 70 and like it. So close I can almost touch it. And thaks for teaching me a new word. It will be my favorite until I retire. All the best to you, Luigi. I always enjoy stepping into your neighborhood.

Rich, always nice to hear from you. I have been long retired and enjoy the luxury of having plenty of time to indulge in my hobby of writing and of reading the contributions of my fellow authors from whom I get lots of inspiration.

Love it, didn’t spot this one. Am glad I have company in the dictionary corner now. Time is a funny thing isn’t it. Very nicely done. :)

Hello, onemorething.
I only found it by accident because I was curious to know how the Dictionaru of Obscure Sorrows worked.
Having found that word I had to build a narrative around it, a procedure that was unusual for me as I tend to write a poem first and then find a suitable title. 
As I like to experiment, I try anything once.

It worked out well, and yes re process, though I guess no different to inspiration points in a way; reading something and letting it sit with you and seeing what comes to mind. Or writing something and remembering that there was a word for that and looking it up again.

I agree that the process is similar to the Inspiration Point except with the latter one doesn't have to stick to the prompt word and in fact we are encouraged to think laterally.
Where the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows has the advantage is, as you say, learning and remembering new words. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

nice hearing from you. Yes, I am having a good time, relaxing and indulging in one of my favourite pastimes, writing. It gives me pleasure to hear that someone might be inspired by my scribbles which sometimes hit the mark but often sink miserably. We all inspire each other and many times I wished that I was the author of poems like yours or of other talented writers on this site. By reading each other's work we may come across unusual words like the one above. My find was made possible thanks to the contributor whose pseudonym is 'onemorething' who mentioned the Dictionary Of Obscure Sorrows where that word was found.
