Last Thursday I was at work when I got a phone call from Arc the debt recovery company, it was another one of their Assistants, she introduced herself as, “Zoe,” She said, “You need to find your V5C and post it to the DVLA Enforcement Centre D12 Longview Road, Swansea SA99 1AH,” I said with a raised voice, “I’VE ALREADY DONE THAT!” She said, “Have you sent it to this address?” I replied, “NO BUT I’VE SENT IT TO ALL THE OTHER ADDRESSES THAT THE DVLA HAS!” She replied unfazed, “Well send it to this address,” Then in a defeatist tone I said, “This will be the 6th letter I’ve sent to the DVLA, telling them, I was in a car accident last year, someone ran into me from a side road and a Company came and took the car away and sold it at auction, the Company refuses to tell me the name and address of the new owner.”
I wrote down the name and address to this this 6th letter to the DVLA and added, “If after this, the DVLA still can’t find the new owner; I will put it all over social media the registration plate of the car you say I still drive and ask whoever sees this car to tell the police, as the car is clearly stolen.” This phone call had ruined my day, it was lovely until then. I’ve had many texts, letters and phone calls from Arc, bothering me for payments of a fine from this year, for a car I didn’t have, or know its whereabouts, somebody was having a laugh at my expense, for the car was not taxed, and there was something the new owner did, but DVLA wouldn’t tell me where it had happened, but they wanted me to pay the £80 fine! I was truly fed up! But undefeated I decided to write the latest letter to DVLA, and again send it signed for, like I did all the other letters to them, before the one I’d write next, then when I got back negative, rubbish info from DVLA I would then finally carry out my threat and put it all over social media.
On my way home I was tired, and decided I wouldn’t then go through all the hassles of finding the flipping V5C form and going back out to the post office, but I’d do it tomorrow.
When I arrived home, there was a letter in the hall on the table, I could see it was from them! The DVLA had written me yet another letter, I was ready for battle!
The letter said, “Acknowledgement, this confirms that we have updated our records for this vehicle and you are no longer the registered keeper of………….” Oh, my goodness, that made my day! I was SO happy, it took hours for it to sink in that finally after almost one year the DVLA finally accepted that I was not the registered keeper of a car that was written off last year.
The next day I rang Arc and spoke to Viv and told her about the letter I’d received from the DVLA the day before, I added, “The DVLA has known this for over a week, yet they couldn’t be bothered to tell you, that’s really sad,” Viv said, “Can you email me the letter?” I replied, “No, I don’t have a printer, if you ring the DVLA they will tell you.” Viv said, “I’m happy for you,” And I said, “So am I.” Viv added, “You may still get phone calls, letters and texts from us, until we have confirmation from the DVLA” And I said, “OK,” But I didn’t care, just as long as everything was now OK with the DVLA, for that’s all that mattered to me.
