Arn't those birds amazing with the designs they make in the sky? Like your poem with it's creative images, they are magnificent to watch and the most artistic birds when in flight.

I love the idea of them looking like a scatter of black stars swirling.

I'm sorry about the reading thing, I don't think I can as it is just too technical for me and I don't like bothering my partner all the time

Thankyou Jenny :0) The poem hasn't done them justice at all. I had a look online to see if anyone had written a poem about murmerations but couldn't find one. It is so amazing to see, there were only 20 or so last week, but every day about 4 o clock when they fly, a few more snatches come, from different directions, though I cannot hear that they make any vocal  noise. Though yesterday they did a little so maybe it has got big enough. But will have to be careful about looking up, as I thought it was raining, but what was splatting on the road was't rain! I am so excited, I have never seen a murmeration in real life before. Even tired children walking back after school look up from therir phones to see them! Do you have them where you live? I would love to read how you wrote about them

What a beautiful, lyrical poem, Di, truly deserving of the cherries.
Thanks for sharing it.
I was struck by the coincidence of both of us writing about birds on the same day, yours on murmuration (starlings) and mine on wedge (geese).

Hello Di,

In the past, we've had what appears to be thousands of them flying, with more groups joining the throng right over our garden, but not lately here where I live, though I've started putting food out for the birds again, but can't say I've seen any...perhaps they're all over your end, smiley especially with your love of birds. wink

I still think your poem is a great tribute though.

Wow! Our murmeration is MUCH  smaller! This is the first year I have seen them, maybe you are right and it is a new destination? I didn't go for a walk today and my partner (as I was writing to you) told me he'd seen them flying past through the window and we went out and even though it is windy and wet today there are more than ever, like they are coming from the mainland specially. Shivering now!

I am so GLAD  you are feeding your birds again! I was thinking about you this morning seeing all the little goldfinches sheltering from the wind in our garden. It's great you can see all your birds again :0)
