Strands Of Thought

As I sit here on bright
November afternoon,
Warmth of sun
Giving pleasure,
As rays stream
Through into
Conservatory,
Crystal hangs in
Window ensuring
Rainbow colours
Dance around in
Silent wonder,
Bouncing off
Painted walls,
I, savour silence
Of hushed
Shorthand days,
When memories
Flash in and out
Like glistening
Treasured jewels,
Recalling:-
Locarno ballroom...
Top Rank and
Disco balls,
Last smooches to
Roberta Flack's
First time ever
I saw your face,
That dangerous liaison
With a handsome hunk...
The kind that
Leaves a girl
Wondering if being
Spontaneous
Is the right thing to do.
Living in the moment
Was so easy back then,
But now that thrill
Of uncertainty is just
A distant friend
When youth was
On my side.

The splitting of the light
The splitting of the light separating memories.
And maybe aware that youth impetuosity could have gone wrong, and thankful for protection from dangers unaware in youth to look out for? Rhiannon

Ahh sweet memories Jennifer,
Ahh sweet memories Jennifer, the ballroom, the glitter ball, that last dance. Oh yes...remember them well.

It is always a treat to find
It is always a treat to find you have posted something! This is so lovely :
"When memories
Flash in and out
Like glistening
Treasured jewels,"
But your poem is very deep, it's a brilliant metaphor, the flashing lights in the darkness exciting but also disorienting, making you forget things you know in daylight
"Wondering if being
Spontaneous
Is the right thing to do."
each risk you take being like a sparkle in the darkness
and then the sadness at the end. But remembering the certainty of the constant sunlight at the beginning of the poem, which brings warmth and life and wisdom
I will have to come back to read this again!
