Rain pulses on a tarmac eel
grey muscles sleeking down to town.
Dock leaves’ green fanfares burst from dark
mud and trees seethe with finches’ cheeps,
their flicker of bright wings. Blackbirds
and robins on stark branches pour
liquid sound through falling water.
Bright impatient golden eye peeps
from dandelion's calyx lid
while daisy's seeming frail, pale head,
light hearted, shakes off each chill drop.
As though the cement of order
damming change, breaks under pressure,
floods expectations, re-levels
and fills pockets with sky, chance comes
to rearrange, grow other ways.
Let past injustice become mulch -
greed's rules making kindness weak, turn
rotten experience, learned from
by memory's roots deep and strong,
supporting our reach for fairness -
joined, we'll enjoy the Future. Hope!

Wonderful Di, I love how this
Wonderful Di, I love how this ripples and rumbles to your hope at the end. Love the fanfares of dock leaves from dark mud, love all of it. :)

Life breaks through the
Life breaks through the tarmac:
grim rush of life self-centred can break, and better things emerge, be wakened to, when trouble make all stop!

I can tell a lot of thought
I can tell a lot of thought has gone into this poem Di. I like how you end on a hopeful note, that moving in another direction might be the answer, leaving behind selfishness and welcoming kindness. We have to go through the dark to reach the light.
Your poem speaks of so much enlighment.
Jenny.

I love the idea of the empty
I love the idea of the empty road, being like an eel, is it sloping? And the way you've animated your surroundings in the absence of human life. Suddenly the nature around us had greater significance because it carries on, flourishes, it's so reassuring when everything else isn't. The cement, man-made, holding back change, of course something was going to give. Nature has its own flow and nothing can stop it. Great poem Di xx

I've come back to re-read
I've come back to re-read this (and I think I will be back again too) - the way in which this will make us re-examine our lives - the 'cement of order' - wonderful imagery. I hope you're ok on your island Di. Do you have cases there yet?

Wonderful poem, Di, and your ending is so uplifting. The tarmac eel is a brilliant image. I shall think of that whenever I'm next walking along the main road into town.
I'm loving Tina's messages. Glad my mog isn't the only one who likes to put paw to keyboard!

A very hopeful piece, Di. Got much more at the second reading. A lot going on beneath the soil. Like the bindweed roots I've just been digging up.
