Anger

I found anger
at the back of a drawer,
concealed there all this time,
fomenting its own war chest,
discarded beneath the odd
and frayed, but today
I bent down, I leant in
and saw one flushed corner of it
as it pushed out its hot tongue.
A wing beat, a flame
of cardinal in vermilion raised
to sally the fury of a hornet.
And words rose from it like smoke,
incanted to the drum
of a palpitation,
tied to the wind:
little knots of undoing.
