Needing Hugs

When a mother's voice captures time
special as an angel's kiss,
gentle flutter of wings,
quivering leaves in
captured breeze,
my innocence yearns to converse
of better times when dreams were fresh,
you were my rainbow when times were harsh,
I miss the closeness of your warm arms
tried hugging trees...it wasn't enough,
when music occupies memories
I'm drowning in many tears,
lyrics reminding me of you
that kind heart of mum I once knew.
I know you rest in peace...I should leave
well alone, but at this time just can't get
you out my mind, compassion's missing
in this world of mine.
Now here in careworn times no chance for
closeness, quality of life is wearing mask,
keeping distance on doorstep no chance
of hugs.

I'm sure we are all offering
I'm sure we are all offering you a hug across the internet, Jenny, reading this. A lovely poem that is a beacon for your mum's kindness and how much she meant to you. She clearly passed her kind-hearted ness on to you too as this is always apparent in all your poems (they are always full of love) and how you communicate with others. Rachel.

Hugging a tree sounds
Hugging a tree sounds like a great idea, a teddybear too is very affective!

I think it is time now to
I think it is time now to realise how 'rule-tired' and 'hug-hungry' most people around us are.
It's harder still to try to give an 'eye-smile-hug' when wearing masks, but I think it is good if we can try, and so encourage and be encouraged in the tendency to dreariness Maybe waving a cheery hand at the same time. Rhiannon

Hi Jenny. Hug from me too :0)
Hi Jenny. Hug from me too :0) Missing my Dad just now. Even when I knew there was nothing he could do about something, just his caring made it seem not so bad. But I am glad he is spared what's happening these days.
There is so much of your kindness woven through ABC since you joined! Over and over again when reading work posted ages ago, there are supporting comments from you, you have encouraged and welcomed so many writers! Am not a sociable person at all, not close to my family and things you have written have made me feel so much better, to know someone so kind and thoughtful is in the world. Your Mum sounds the most wonderful, warm person to have inspired such deep and true feelings in you, so strong still and no one can fill your spirit and heart the way she did. But you are strong and brilliant, too. Your lawnmower poem sounded so bad, the virus really took it out of you. But even so you wrote a poem with your unique way of looking at things, cutting through cliches, using fresh images that no one else could have, then wonder why not? as they seem obvious because they are perfect. As though every thing, every person you look at, you find something new, make a positive.
If hugging trees is one sided, maybe ABC could be a kind of tree too? But in this tree, you are in the sap of the trunk, making it grow tall and strong? And if you have a problem then the rest of the tree will try to help, because you are so important!!!
So take care of yourself :0) You are special to LOTS of people!

Very well deserved cherries
Very well deserved cherries for this wonderful poem. I'm so sorry to hear things are hard for you Jenny, and am joining the long queue of people sending you virtual hugs, though you're right, there's no substitute for the reassurance of real hugs. Let's hope it won't be too long before we can give and recieve them again. I hope you'll join us at our virtual reading night later on this month? I know you said before you weren't keen on reading your poems aloud, but it would be lovely if you could join the audience. If you need any info/help using zoom just get in touch - in the meantime, I hope you feel better soon xx

Hi Jenny, I've had to try to
Hi Jenny, I've had to try to remember to put my glasses on top of the mask, and they don't seem to steam up so easily. I wrote a short verse about the lack of hugging a short while ago:

Jenny, Zoom is really easy,
Jenny, Zoom is really easy, honestly, and I'd be happy to talk you through fixing it up. All you need is a phone or a computer - Also Di (if you're looking at this too) - it would be so nice if you both managed to join in, even if you don't want to speak yourselves, you are both treasured members of ABCTales and it would be really good to 'see' you. email me at claudine@abctales if you want. Luigi is going to perform, by the way -and hudson moon - how could you possibly miss that???

Jenny? About face masks - don
Jenny? About face masks - don't know if it is different in England, but up here we are allowed to wear "visors" which are really just a screen made of thin see through plastic attatched to elastic which goes round the back of your head. It is MUCH easier to breath with than a mask? You can just wash it in the sink with washing up liquid if it needs cleaning and I've had mine weeks and is still fine? It was about £3 on Amazon
take care of yourself xxx

Good one
Hey Jenny, I really dig the dual thing you have going on here, I suppose mostly about missing your mom, but also it relates to the stress a lot of people are having right now, being sequestered from others, feeling lonely. Great work.
