Deodar Tree

You are no Christmas Tree
living peaceful and serene,
have no care for weeping
in your passion for giving,
present of wood for shelter
enduring secure renewal
of many safe tomorrows,
divine recognition anchored.
Spiritual matters are given
in fragrance of incense,
derived from inner sanctum
of peace at Holy Temple,
in meditation; resolving issues
of insects as pests without hurt,
assisting safe passage...no decay
to these mountain shelters,
from life's birth evoking wisdom,
elaborately boastful you are not;
just admirable, living the ancient
and mysterious ways taught.

ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA:-
native to the Himalayas. It is worshipped as a divine tree
among Hindus.
Deodar is in great demand as building material because
of its durability, rot-resistant character and fine close grain,
also used to construct religious temples and landscaping
around temples. The inner wood is aromatic and used to make
incense, also innerwood is distilled into essential oil. As insects
avoid this tree, the essential oil used as insect repellent on the
feet of horses, cattle and camels, it also has antifungal properties.
So as you can see the Deodar tree is extremely giving.

Cedars are serene! Many years
Cedars are serene! Many years ago there used to be one on a walk I went on. I was trespassing, and always worried I would be told off, but under this tree the idea of ownership seemed irrelevent :0)
I like this :
"resolving issues
of insects as pests without hurt,"
particularly as we have been invaded by mice and am hoping we can put them off with aromatherapy. Tina is not getting a wink of sleep :0)
Hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year full of more wonderful writing

Another good one, Jenny
Another good one, Jenny. It's interesting some of the background you have been giving on these, like their inclusion in Indian or Native American cultures. Good job.

Hi Jenny
Hi Jenny
This is a lovely poem, and you can see why the tree is of spritiual significance. I love the smell of cedar. We had a trunk made out of cedar at home, and I used to open it jsut to get the smell.
