Memento

I should delete these texts
A permanence of darkness,
where light no longer creeps,
where memories fade,
of bygone times.
I can hardly see them now,
time swept corridors,
eroding the past.
Sand colours made grey.
Ghosts clinging to
the edge of an abyss.
A story arc soaked
in quiet tears of sadness.
Indecipherable words on
moss covered gravestones,
age-addled decay.
Dust motes of souls,
floating in the ether.
I still feel them,
in black and white dreams,
one click away
from cavernous eternity.
The lingering truth remains,
I can’t delete these texts.

Electronic mementoes more
Electronic mementoes more easily hoarded and hidden than the letters of times past. Still have to analyse reasons for keeping or deleting/throwing away, I guess.
I've always wanted to spell it 'momento', and have been told that's wrong, but have just checked and either seem to be acceptable now. 'Memento's is from 'remember' I gather, 'momento' seems linked in my mind of reminders of past moments! Rhiannon

It is hard to let go. I had
It is hard to let go. I had a very similar thing, texts with people about members of the family who subsequently passed away, and it was a long time before I deleted them. It felt, as you say, as though I was deleting the people. If it comforts you, there's nothing wrong with it, and I think you eventually know when you're ready to move on. You touched a chord with this piece.

...in black and white dreams.
...in black and white dreams.. is part of a stunning paragraph and poem. You dug deep into the soul to get these feelings - and expressed them well. A great poem.
