Two bowls

His job to put fresh food waste out
(and through the day she piled the lot
into a bowl upon the shelf)
but often he forgot.
One day he heard her give a shout –
‘Where is my salad bowl for tea?
It took so long, where can it be?’
Dismay … delay …
The children had to wait while she
searched out what salad veg was still
available their tums to fill;
later their Mum and Dad could laugh
when he and she forgave each others’ cries and ‘Why?s’!

Forgetting to put waste out,
Forgetting to put waste out, yes, we've all done that or blamed our other halves when they've fallen foul of absent mindedness. Forgiving the cries and whys, that's what binds us together.

Ha, ha. I can just imagine
Ha, ha. I can just imagine how easily that happened.

this made me smile. could
this made me smile. could imagine it happening in our house, too :0)
we had got a rodent problem in the garden so I attached a bin lid under the bird feeder, to stop anything falling to the ground, as worried that might be what attracted them. I hoped the birds would work out about eating it from the lid (which they have, now) But before this happened, my partner saw all the stuff in the lid and worried it would be wasted, so scooped it all out onto the ground. I think "Why?" was my most articulate bit of reaction, too :0)
The thing is, it was lovely, as you say in this poem, when we both said sorry and laughed about it :0)
