Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the King's horses
and all the King's men
couldn't put Humpty together again.
Love is soft and round;
we pass its warm shape
between us, our words
mean the same thing,
until they don't.
I ask why I am alone -
what a stupid question
when there is no one
but me to answer, I
do not even need a name.
All devotions have a beginning,
which presupposes an end,
which makes me wonder
if this rhyme, demystified,
is just a clever allegory
for a broken heart - for
almost everything is breakable,
but not everything will mend.
I based my poem on the idea too that I would respond a bit like Humpty Dumpty in Alice in Wonderland myself - where he treats language as if it is his personal toy, I thought I would be a little playful.

Very clever interpretation.
Very clever interpretation. This got me thinking - which is never a good thing - about beginnings and endings; the art is to begin something and have the ending in mind, and to build towards that with an open mind and heart and with respect. But then life has limitless ways of throwing its entropic slings at us!

Maybe if the heart is like an egg, inside there is a creature which can fly, and needs the heart to break so it can be free?

My brother also has a Georgy Porgy one:
Humpty Dumpty pudding and pie
Bombed the Arabs and watched them die
But when Korea came out to play
Humpty Dumpty ran away

A clever interpretation of the nursery rhyme Rachel, Those last five lines ring so true. Some times no matter how strong you are, when a certain predicament is unavoidable, whether it be a broken heart, or some other reason, there can be an imbalance that breaks your heart and knocks you down. But there's always hope and a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry I'm rambling, this poem just touched me at present.
Jenny.
