Missing You

I walked amongst the graves on that evening of Samhain...
until I came to my late love...churchyard no longer silent,
for inside I could hear the chanting incantations...while up
in the belfry ringing out this night, bells tolled up in the tower,
my mind stirring as the cherished memories come flooding back...
of laughter and deep affection, once more I looked fondly upon two
cherubs sitting each side his tomb, a symbol of his caring nature,
no sombre – gloomy thoughts are with me on this Autumn day,
for when he died he smiled with grace his pain left and gone away,
Remembering the day we met...an ice cold bitter chill,
up on a foggy knoll we sat, I was lost he led me back
to the valley down below. We found an ale house friendly
and warm...a fire burning bright...a bed to lay our weary heads
and dreams to share till dawn and the morning sun was bright,
realising on that sad day...we had to go our separate ways,
exchanging numbers with sad farewells a kiss...a hug and an
empty feeling as we left...a missing parting of the waves,
but like the pull of magnets, allure more than we could bear,
like two crazy cars at speed driving fast towards one another,
we hurtled into each others arms, delirious with a spell of love.
That was more than forty years ago, now I am old and grey...
laying flowers at his grave...I speak my thoughts away,
'soon we will be together again my love, for the Summer lands
they call my name...this earth has nothing left for me, no bonds
or ties or family. So my darling please be there and wait for me.'
On that night I lay...no moon or stars to light my way,
I closed my eyes drifted away. The morning came all
too soon, but sadly not for me, for I was in the Summer
lands, with my soul mate...the man I love so blissfully.

Missing You
A really beautiful love story Jenny. I pray that, at some stage, all the lucky people will be able to relate to it. Lucky in love, that is - Charlie

Hi Jenny
Hi Jenny
This is a beautiful tribute to a loved one. I very much enjoyed reading it. My husband is buried in a woodland cemetery, so there is no headstone or even indication where he is. I think one of the trees which is 99% dead marks his grave, but I can't be sure. But it is a beautiful setting, among the hills in the Peak District, and that was what he wanted.
