Facebook smiles
and ‘touched-up ’lives –
charade.
Out and about,
‘on parade’,
masquerade:
Invisible masks
to observe
while inner self hidden,
unexposed
unobserved,
desire to be unknown:
isolated, alone.

Hi Rhiannon

I am not a facebook fan, although I know I am missing a lot of family news by avoiding it. But your poem was kind of how I feel about it.

Thanks, Jean. Yes, I've become aware of missing some family news, and also from the Care Home where mother-in-law is, but I feel wary about joining, and also aware how superficial some of the news that seems to flow about in abundance is, and how some people seem to get depressed by the painted pictures of others' lives compared with the reality of their daily struggle. And deeper friendships and sharing with helpful understanding that take longer but may be more meaniingful suffer. Rhiannon
