Sunburst Guitar
I was walking down Main st.
had a lot on my mind
like, keep your eyes wide open
don’t take no wooden nickels or dimes
Found myself at a tag sale
hidden treasures, and more
when my eyes fell on a sunburst
I knew I had to have it, for sure
‘How much for the guitar?’
I asked the boy, with his mom
‘twenty bucks’ll do it
just slap it right there in my palm’
I fell into a strange spell
I was up in the air
at first I was a-walkin’
and now I’m gettin’ me some stares
‘Cause me and my sunburst
were sat on a cloud
and I just couldn’t help it
so I sang a little tune out loud
And we flew away happy
it didn’t take very long
when I got home I restrung it
and I wrote me down the following song
Twenty dollar guitar
twenty dollar guitar
never figured when I woke up
that I’d buy a twenty dollar guitar
Twenty dollar guitar
twenty dollar guitar
never figured when I woke up
that I’d own a twenty dollar guitar

How happy the guitar must be,
How happy the guitar must be, given a voice again and its very own tune in welcome :0)
I am not the tiniest bit musical, but, wonderfully, my son IS so right now I can hear him twangling away as he has just restrung the A which snapped :0) It is a strange and sort of magical thing to see someone reach for their guitar, settling it, then playing, I feel like watching a swan running along the water's surface, then taking off :0)
I loved the joy in your poem and so glad you shared it like this, thankyou :0)
