Preparation Time

Before we celebrate
let’s pause and wait
to contemplate
and meditate
what we intend to celebrate.

Don’t be precipitate
take time to prepare
gifts and praise –
(not pressurised in gifting),
nor attempts at lifting
mood by frittering the days
in merriment trivial
thoughtlessly convival
fake as glitter
faded, jaded
wilting to bitter:
too much
too soon
is no celebration
just exhaustion!

It should definitely not be all about presents, like a kind of arms race! And you are so right about planning, took me years to get that :0)

Not just planning, but preparing our hearts for both celebration and praise. Present giving has got rather out of hand hasn't it? And receiving presents graciously, and receiving Christ himself, and finding out about him.

I was telling Grace on her Christmas story how someone I knew once gave a present (I think to her parents) of a cow for somewhere, Africa probably (through a charity)! Rhiannon
