It Being December

Dulled
A mind follows a rainbow
Seven shades of jet
In hope to find
A faerie shoemaker
In wee black jacket and cap
Tap-tapping at the soles
Of blackened boots
As he guards
His crock of coal
Before the setting of a sun
That didn't rise
Didn't even try
Entrapped by anthracite nights
At either end
Of another charcoal day
Image: A dark day in Connemara, created by me.

Hi Turlough,
an interesting look at the I P, Reminded me of a coal miner's active imagination, looking through their eyes this is how they must have seem their life.
Enjoyed reading.

It sounds like you have that Seasonal Affective Disorder really hard?
But also that you have the answer in you - your great imagination! which can conjour up ideas and stories and images, out of your mind. This is the light in your head and Winter is its time to shine :0)
Do you ever write fantasy? I would love to read some with your comic genius in there, too

Doesn't have to be fantasy
Doesn't have to be fantasy fantasy? I know you are top of the world when it comes to anecdotes, real life funny stories, but could you set yourself the challenge of wondering how some of your favourite characters from your encounters would be in a made up situation? I know from my miserable attempts at writing fiction, the cause and effect thing is so intriguing!

The visuals
The visual images this puts in my head are stunning. Your picture is also inspiring to me. Beautiful open. I also agree with Di above, why not give fantasy prose a whirl?

But you do have some bright
But you do have some bright autumn and winter days don't you? It must have been much harder when there were only oil or gas lamps to cheer the indoors. Rhiannon
