The Food Of the Gods

The food of the gods
is not normally seen
to be the product
of the cacao bean.
A Toltec myth said
that the serpent god,
Quetzalcoatl planted
the first cocoa pod.
Chocolate was thought
by the Aztec and Mayas
to be an aphrodisiac,
but I discern bias.
The legend Montezuma
drank, so we are told,
chocolate from a goblet
made of pure gold
before he consorted
with a young concubine,
knowing that afterward
she'd be on cloud nine.
The Greeks differed
in their interpretation
of what constituted
a divine alimentation.
It was manna or ambroaia
and conferred immortality.,
they say, but I look at both
beliefs with impartiality.

I've got to congratulate you for fitting the word Quetzalcoatl into a poem.
An enjoyable read, as ever.
