Waxing Gibbous

The earth broods tonight
of almost, almost, a monument
made, not of stone, but milklight,
that silhouettes the black birds
who sleep, one eye open,
to the mysteries of darkness
and hope, here, they wait
and wait to wake
upon the branches of dawn.

Not quite the full beacon,
Not quite the full beacon, but we're getting there! Looking at the moon always seems to fascinate me more when it is neither full nor new.
I enjoyed your poem, especially the words ...
silhouettes the black birds
A silhouette in front of the moon makes it appear so much more enchanting.

Hi Rachel,
you paint with words an evocative picture, and the description of the blackbird sleeping with one eye open silhouetted against the moon is so magical.
A poem with a sense of tranquilitywhich I enjoyed reading.
Jenny.

The moon holds us in
The moon holds us in fascination, it is inspiring and mysterious, no matter that man has visited it; it remains in shadows, unknown. I love your poetic picture of the moon's waxing gibbon phase, the half light in early evening, milklight, and the black birds caught in silhouette evoke the perfect imagery for moon dreaming.
