Passing Time

Dear diary...it's the second week of
April, seems like winter's heavy
storms and whistling winds that left
trees with no dignity have finally
vanished, now limbs no longer
twitch and dance; swept here
and there while gusts took control.
Peaceful calm's restored, soft
trickled murmurings from radio,
an Archers episode plays out,
becoming a muffled part of
afternoon life in our garden.
Crows caution is passionate,
waiting for hazards to pass;
impulse is to feed, flinching
ready for taking flight when
sounds of danger are in sight,
perching on neighbour's roof.
“Caw! Caw!” They cry out;
“It's safe now,” flapping back
down to earth, they return.
Parallel glances from pigeons,
seems to me they all look alike...
not being a pigeon expert,
waddling along with dignity
till suddenly spooked!
That sudden fear creates
interspersed beating of wings
that take flight, seen and heard
in sky resonating.
Does blackbird care? Certainly not,
he's too busy shaking tail feathers,
splashing around in birdbath:
showering sparrow and robin
on grass below with gusto,
to notice any commotion.
This garden is a pleasure to be in,
surrounded by so many sights
and sounds, that leave me smiling
with delight, as I sit here passing time.
Photo's my own.

You describe all your birds
You describe all your birds so well, those pigeons, they always seem a bit pompous to me, and your blackbird having a bath with "gusto" is just right :0) And you show again how in tune you are with your crows. I really enjoyed this, all the business in your garden, the characters

Hi Jenny,
Hi Jenny,
A lovely uplifting poem about the birds as they wake from winter's slumber and once more are alive again, delighting us with their antics.

Sounds like more of a drama
Sounds like more of a drama than the Archers' episode! Rhiannon

You've summed up just how
You've summed up just how much everything has changed over the past week Jenny. The air feels different and spring seems to have burst out of its seems all of a sudden. I love 'not being a pigeon expert', made me smile. The birds bring so much a garden and fill the air with sound at this time of the year.

Does blackbird care?
Does blackbird care?
I strongly suspect that the answer is no. All the birds are too busy at this time of year to think about what's going on in the world. I can't imagine that they spend as much time watching us as I do watching them. They are beautiful creatures ... every single one of them.
Our storks got it wrong this year. Seeing them fly over is supposed to signify that there will be no more snow (according to the folklorists but not the meterologists who always get it wrong anyway) so although we've already had some days that wouldn't seem out of place in June, this morning we have snow.
The final verse of your lovely poem reflects how I so often feel when I am in your garden and your photograph underlines what a lovely place your garden is.
