These Hands

Poor writing at school,
these hands.
Too limp to shake,
these hands.
Not made for tools,
these hands.
The things they break,
these hands.
The life they’ve lived,
these hands.
The skin so old,
these hands.
The balm they give,
these hands.
The heart they hold,
these hands.

There's something intense
There's something intense about hands, our mother's hands in particular, hands that kept us alive as infants. A very moving poem.3

Agreed, moving words.
Agreed, moving words. Memories are everything and nothing when they are gone.

god, now you'll need to do legs. Then eyes. Then teeth. There could be a poetry book on hair alone. Or in my case, very alone.

this is an inspiring comment.
Cm, this is the most inspiring piece of feedback I have read for a long time! A story told from top to toe. Written by a surgeon, or a beauty therapist or an art teacher ,

Tears, shivers and that
Tears, shivers and that chocked up feeling, told me how much your poem resonated with me. Beautiful and poignant.

When I worked with elderly
When I worked with elderly people I often used to think I could tell as much about a person's life from their hands as I could from their face. Hands that when touched for a second or two would make an old face light up in an act that might be considered intimate but not invasive.
Lovely words Ewan.
