in the chrysalis of shock

we change -

made to fight 

for self respect 

or flight

on wings of fear

 high above what once we held

dear.  All the DNA that made us

then, makes us now  - no more nor less

as lego bricks taken apart, instructions lost, wait

for the urge to create

unplanned

a new purpose

In the chrysalis of shock! Is very apt for today, where we've had lockdown from covid and those poor people of Ukraine going through a pointless war. Then you say in your poem, made to fight for self respect or flight, that too is very appropriate to those women and children having to flee their country, leaving their men to fight.

Let's hope that a new purpose can be found. 

I found your poem very emotional, almost to the point of weeping as I read. Very visual on a subject we can't help but feel strongly about.

Your gentle soul shines through on this one.

I've read this a few times, Di, and Jenny's analysis. Interestingly the new IP is now 'change'. (sorry, my memory is at fault, just realised it's 'choice'!)

I thought at first your photo was of 'rubbish', but guess now it is lego bricks?

When forced to change by shock and events, iwe are still the same person.

What really came to mind for me was that God says we do all need him to give us life, as we are spiritually dead until he comes into our hearts, and then it is a new birth, with new insight and priorities and abilities with his help, as well as assurance of eternal life, and that he is honing us day by day. Although, had not thought of the photo looking like rubbish! I had wondered if a chrysalis might have worked better, will maybe change it now :0)

A clever and interesting poem Di. There's so many directions you can go in with a chrysalis, it's such a shocking peice of engineering and a shocking process for the creature involved but somehow it survives all that change. I enjoyed the uplift at the end, the urge to create, take off and fly away.

Thankyou for reading and your very kind comment, Jane. agree with you about chrysalises, it seems magic to me, as not sure scientists know what happens even now, how a a perfect, working being can turn into soup, lthen solidify into one with completely different capabilities, complex and remembering instinctively what to do.

I was just reading your comment to Jane, and just had to let you know my feelings. I think the chrysalise turning into a beautiful butterfly, is a typical example of reincarnation. I truely believe when we die our soul rests, then we wake to discover the next part of our journey...whatever it maybe.

Hope you didn't mind me giving my point of view. Your poem certainly gives food for thought.

Jenny, am always extremely glad of your comments, so thankyou for this one! I That is what I was trying to get at - even when we seem totally lost (in the soup stage) this can be a beginning of something wonderful we could not imagine before?
