If I can just get through the day

If I can just get through the day
Knowing I can return to the vessel
Where oblivion is docked
And I can retreat into silent,
Solitary tunnels, my mind
Unravelling in interplanetary space
If I can just make these people fade
Or at least dilute with my resolve
What I perceive to be their power
I will be strong enough
To blow away the monsters
Which hide among their vapour trails
If I can fight this day in blinks
In tiny turns of turning in
Remind myself of the fire
The little flame within
Where the storm can never blow
Touch base with the purest form of myself
If I can slow each breath, not gasp
As others breathe my air
I must not punish my heart
With endless fights and flights
I must hold something back
And in turn, learn to let go
If I can just get through this day
Stride on, swallowing the harsh light
I’ll return again tomorrow
From my solitary tunnels
Only through a different port
Where the light is softer

a softer kinder light, might work. I like the world-weariness of the words.

Hi Jane,
This poem could have been written about me, it's everything I feel and much more.

Your job sounds really grim!
Your job sounds really grim! I remember feeling like this, you express how at the end of a shift I couldn't wait to go to the woods with my dog and be alive again :0)
I hope things become better for you very soon
I like "softer" light. The harsh light and stale air making everything flat is one of the horrid things about working inside

Accolades well deserved Jane*
Just a quicky here, for you and whom ever is interested = those frustrating days, finding inspiration, chill'n, try'n to find the unwind, an escape to that meditation state of mind & possibly something to write too.
+ Jane I noticed the picture, of what looks the milky way/stars.. (?)
When I'm at my desk working, or trying to write another story/chapter, or just trying to find that chill'n zone...... I'm using this...

That's the live-feed, Earth View, from the International Space Station (ISS) with music = dream, calm, chill music.... I keep it on 1 of my computer screens (all the time). It's interesting, a bit spiritual, etc... +++

For those of you that can put it up on your Flat screen TV, surround sound, it has that cool effect..
In my case, at times, I project on the wall w/ surround sound....
