The First Corduroys of Fall

I take a deep breath of excitement as an Autumn chill shivers my spine whilst I suck it in and zip up my wrinkly old brown corduroy trousers; my ever-expanding man-boobs throb with excitement as I slip on my favorite faux cashmere v-neck sweater; my whimsical socks hug my ankles with wondrous anticipation as I descend the stairs to select a pair of suitably comfy shoes. At the shoe rack I stand, breathless at the thought of which pair will best suit my seasonal ensemble; I choose wisely, going with Clarks Vargo Vibe brown leather Oxford.

My feet hum with excitement as I lace up and think of donning something sleeveless. Of course! The LL Bean Mountain Classic Fleece Vest! Oh, how I envy the onlookers!

My accoutrement ensemble smugly settled I stroll the village like a newly born beast of October. The fragrant Hudson Valley air carries with it a coffee/pumpkin/cinnamon/IPA vibe. I take a deep breath and let out a satisfied sigh, and—with my senses properly inebriated—I sink my hands in deep pockets and wait. I don’t wait long.

Get a load of boomer, I hear someone say.

Please do, I say. And, yes, feel free to take a picture.

Ha. I am the least impeccible person I know, Penny. My son would save pictures of every year of his growing up with me wearing the same denim shirt. Not a similar shirt. The same shirt.

Thank you, DH. Frumpy corduroy is the only way to go when you reach a certaqin age.

But it's NOT  frumpy!!! I was surprised too, when my son said he wanted a corduroy jacket and we spent ages looking on ebay :0)

Very debonaire, Rich! I donned my heavy duty jeans last night, for the first time this year. Then I remembered why you don't put on jeans you haven't worn for a while, on the night you're meeting friends for a meal crying

There's a reason behind me having these pants, Jane. Back in 2010 my son and his girlfriend worked at the local gracery store. I'd come into the store wearing these threadbare corduroys and his girlfriend would always get embarrassed. "Please never wear those pants again," she'd say. So, of course, I'd buy the same pair everytime one wore out. Ha.

lol. My wife took the picture, Paul. We were on our way to a garage sale and I had to laugh because I looked like every other shlub in Putnam county. Then I thought of a recent commercial I saw with the J Peterman character from Seinfeld. Remember? He had his own clothing catalog? So i used it to do the bit. Made me laugh as I wrote it.

Nothing wrong with corduroys. You look really smart Rich. You never know you could be starting a new fashion for the kids today...well anything's possible. wink

I was very proud of wearing black corduroys back in the early 70s, and I'd still wear them now, even threadbare if I still had them, trouble is I doubt they'd fit... blush she says blushing.

Yes, Jenny, everything old is new again. One can only hope. I can't afford a new wardrobe.So I keep wearing the old ones until my wife decides to hide/toss out/pass on the Goodwill. Ha. Funny thing is I do shop on occastion at Good will hoping to find a vintage item or two. Adn I'm sure you looked smart and hip in your black cords. x
