Interesting Times

There's life rendered from happy
days engraved in music; sustaining
familiar recollections, essential as
each breath taken;
manifestations surface from depths
like ghostly shadows, their charm's
greater than fear...for this binding is
comfort,
intoxicating antiquated youth lingers
where madcap adventures drift
through those interesting times;
when I was a teenager.
We were like the wild woods
breathing in energy, our flexible limbs
dancing with the breeze; living for the
moment – not concerned with tomorrow,
freaking out at music festivals,
waist length chestnut hair swaying
like willow branches; pendulous
across our faces,
never resembling scarecrows
standing in fields...for we had
souls that flowered most of the
summer in expression,
transported by euphoric blends of
spellbinding musical sounds that
blew our minds; linking us together,
keeping our hunger satisfied and
my memories alive.

You bring the memories of younger days back in a haunting way, Jenny. It's good to have fond reveries. Enjoyed your latest diary entry (I imagine?) even if I now have images of long, chestnut-coloured hair swinging away. Take care. Paul :)

Hi Jenny,
Hi Jenny,
Skilful use of language in this poem: flowed like water, a never ending stream.

Gosh Jenny, this is almost scarily intense! Music as Life Force?

You show clearly your enjoyment of the pleasure in youth's escapism. I suppose escapism at other ages is more private! But maybe older years bring more opportunities for different interesting times maybe not as immediately exciting, but bringing satisfaction of things accomplished and helping others in their trials. As a memory and explanation
As a memory and explanation of your youth and the incredible musical and cultural renaissance of those times this is a great poem, and a great record of those times!

The late 60’s and 70’s were formative years for me too.I am there with you Jenny. The music fed our souls. The days of youth were awareness personified and anything was possible, felt possible, and the music was the background to it all. Losing a friend you've shared wonderful memories with makes you introspective. Aging is not as much fun as growing, but the goden memories you've stored up can take you back to a happier time; you'll never lose your glow.
