“ Golden Valley*”: wide, bright green fields,
but misty mysterious, atmospheric this day.
Far hills, sentinels, peer over from beyond.
Up on the ridge Arthur’s Stone, collapsed burial chamber –
bones and stones reminders of those long gone:
beauty of the valley, and labour of lives, temporary:
    stones show how all long for,
    prepare for, await
    a future, uncorrupted.

* West Herefordshire. Name comes from the French (Norman)
D’or, as it is the valley of the river Dore (which is actually from the
Welsh ‘dŵr’ meaning ‘water’).

Thank you for taking us on another of your wonderful walks. What a beautiful valley - misty but not yet autumnal as your trees seem still to be very green. Is that usual? So much here seems skewed after our hot, dry and very long summer!

Thanks, this was ten days ago, and there has been much more autumnal colours in this last week, though they were there then too. The dry summer did start some off early here too. Rhiannon

loved "misty mysterious"! And the echoing stones, bones and gone. I remember seeing one of those burial stone constructions in Cornwall, and reading the old word for stone there is men. You have taken fabulous photos again! You show how stirred up the Earth must have been, to have those valleys carved through and hills thrown up, there is a feeling of energy in such landscapes, and you evoke a wonderful sense of different scales of time in "beauty of the valley, and labour of lives, temporary"
