Memories from Falls Past
Mist falling in dank layers, enveloping
oak trees wrapped in spectral tendrils,
amber leaves drift on autumnal eddies,
seasons shift, poles tilting, winter nears.
Looking out from frost-bitten windows,
I see colours of purple, reds and golds,
in the pale hue of stolid suns, reels flicker,
memories faded by monochrome years.
Cradled in my arms, legs dangle below,
my daughter carried on gasps of cold air,
roaming through flora, overgrown fences,
white flowers droop on plastic netting.
She calls them “spies”, giggles and recoils,
webs strung out like gossamer bridges,
raindrops suspended, glistening, dew,
bushes bristle in the cold, bare breeze.
Scenes from childhood, decades since past,
our lives measured in sepia still-frames,
living legacies to the world, extensions of us,
consanguine rivers flowing to familial seas.
I can still hear her lilting, child-like laughter,
wind-chimes in ether, tinkling on gentle winds,
eternal waves lapping on windswept beaches,
echoes of ghosts making ageless sandcastles.

Such s visual scene capturing
Such s visual scene capturing what is seen, not only through a child's eyes, but also the writer's too.
I loved:-
cradled in my arms, legs dangle below,
my daughter carried on gasps of cold air,
roaming through flora, overgrown fences,
white flowers droop on plastic netting.
she calls them "spies", giggles and recoils,
webs string out like gossamer bridges,
raindrops suspended, glistening dew,
bushes bristle in the cold, bare breeze.
Really enjoyed your poem as a whole though Paul.
Thank you for sharing.
Jenny.

The different faces of autumn
The different faces of autumn, and the interweaving of memories linked with the scenes: as one gets older the connecting scenes increase.
reels flicker …consanguine rivers flowing to familial seas. I liked that image. Rhiannon

I like very much how you link
I like very much how you link the light shining in raindrops to a little girl's laughter, the raindrops suspended on cobwebs, and your daughter's delight caught in your memory
