I chose to bathe in light

I made a big mistake
I didn't choose the tallest
I didn't choose the fattest
Your brothers joked on our wedding day
I've replied over and over in my head
I chose the most handsome
I chose the kindest
The smile that could illuminate a crypt
I chose the touch of a hand on my cheek
My name whispered like an incantation
I thought such love was only a cliché
A jumble of cotton candy and syrupy air
Yet you sound dreadfully convincing
When you tell me I'm so stunning
Nobody can compare
I can't imagine how others can
witness our love unchanged
Then return to their normal lives
Back to their normal loves
That don't look like you
I can't imagine how I can
live through our love unscathed
And one day, perhaps, lose it
One day, perhaps, lose you
And go back to abnormal life
Without our normal love

My husband and I just received the photos from our wedding in September. I guess I was feeling sentimental. I hope it's not too sickly sweet. In my defense, I've had the biggest crush on the guy for the past seven years, so I can't help it. Unless he makes me angry, which I don't tend to write poems about. Anyway, here it is. A poem for my husband. How embarrassing.

I think it's a wonderful
I think it's a wonderful tribute to your man. When you meet someone who makes you feel good, your love for each other can conquer all. Hope you manage to hold on to that magic.
I enjoyed reading your poem too.
Jenny.

How great to have written
How great to have written poetry for your husband... does he get to see it? or is it hidden away under a pseudonym? I somehow like the idea that he's a completely oblivious muse
Enjoyed your story at the reading on Sunday as well!
