                                                                        We never saw him.                                                                                                                               He left a towel on the beach.                                                                                                                                 He just swam on;                                                                        Until he was out of reach.

Thannks Mark. Yes, I thought we could read this in two ways; and again, I took my inspiration from Not Waving But Drowning - my attempt to condense what was already a spare but profound poem.

BTW. There may have been some confusion over the title; Mr Smith does not refer to the great Stevie Smith, who was a woman (I did asked this)
