Remembering

Dear diary...
As summer ends winter
begins to steep in cold,
what remains is easy to
see...memories of tender
forgotten pleasure, two
warm souls meandering
together;
their eyes so full of love,
evidence was clear, not
another existed, when
with hands entwined;
her cheeks were flushed
as like a rose, and he with
hungry appetite for beauty
would propose.
But oppressed thoughts
in old age suffocated like
heavy blanket of fear; for
neither could fathom their
advanced years, how once
rapture in autumn of ones
life could disappear.
I recall on Samhain's Eve,
amid creeping ivy in late
evening's darkness; this
dwelling place entranced
by woodland fragrance,
autumn's earthy softness
called forth by routes of
shady tree – whose bark
wrinkled with age, now
cleansed by moon's rays;
branches carried in such
beautiful silence,
transition of passing was
without apprehension or
doubt; breathtaking as
transformation of
caterpillar to butterfly,
symbolic and transient
like sprinkling of fairy
dust on a magical dream.
A poem to mum and dad
who passed. Mum wanted
to experience freedom
from pain, but sadly had
no wings to fly.
Dad got cancer which
descended into a living
nightmare, where somber
shadows for me did
appear...yet he remained
in good spirit.
Ashes spread under tree
dad you planted in the
wood, then I said a blessing
that peace for you both
would last.
Photo is my own.

These are lovely words Jenny.
These are lovely words Jenny.
A perfect memorial to your much loved parents. It's clear to see that they had the same passion for the nature around them that you have.
Beautiful!

Such moving notes at the end of the poem. A beautiful tribute to your parents. Nicely done, Jenny.

'whose bark wrinkled with age
'whose bark wrinkled with age' I love the idea of elements of the forest also growing old like the journey of your parents from their youthful courtship through to 'the suffocated heavy blanket of fear' in old age. The endless cycle of new beginnings, life and decline, it's all a game of chance.
