What happened, little car?

“Little car, little car, have you been far? have you been far?”
‘They drove me off and made me go fast
and then just kept going, I was drained at last –
empty of petrol and coughing, I stopped.
Then they tried and tried, ‘til out they hopped
and ran away laughing, and I
was left quite literally high and dry
up the mountain road on a dead-end track
wanting that someone would find me and bring me back
here with you safe again, but I waited long
and felt myself rusting and my strength all gone.
Then suddenly a hiker took note, and a pic,
and said he’d report me, and they came with a truck
towed me off to a garage and made me well,
and I didn’t know how my story to tell!
Your Dad fetched me home, and oh, I’m so glad
to be back with you all and forget I was sad!’

A happy ending for once. We sometimes see stolen cars abandoned - often crashed as well, and it make sus think of the owners who would have love their cars. A nice one Rhiannon

Thank you. Our car was pranged recently, and after all the paperwork/phonework it was in the garage for a week or so, and we had a courtesy car. My husband said how pleased he was that our car had come back, and I had a vision of a stray car returning, like a lost dog, and then this little story emerged! Rhiannon

Just read your poem Rhiannon. Isn't it surprising where inspiration can come from?  I like how you bring the car to life and give it feelings. An appealing little poem, especially for children.

Very sweet and delightful for children. My car has a name and a character, they all do. I remember my children commenting on whether cars had angry or friendly faces.smileyI'm glad this car was re-united with his family.

thanks.Yes! it's no wonder Rev Awdry and others have put faces on them is it? My father's first car was called Canta because, he said, 'Canta Ford it'!  There is a Welsh rhyme for children about 'Morus y gwynt' (Morris the wind) so my friend's car (a Morris presumably) once was called that, but I don't think they drove so fast! I thought at first this was about a toy car, taken out to the garden and then left for a moment in the "jungle" and lost, as this is happened quite often with us. Much lamentation!!! The idea of a real car being afraid, after being stolen and taken on a "joyride" up a mountain is really good, and the happy ending is perfect :0)

There's a lot of drama in such a short poem, Rhiannon. We do get so attached to our cars, don't we? I enjoyed the ride and was glad of a happy ending :)

  Written in each line, another memory, flash back, smells & visions +++ of the days of days of the VW... some I'll never tell, some smiles, a few cringes, a lot of fun,  and a love lost... for the car too.... glad those days are over & I survived..... miss the VW bugbroken heart...winkangel

Of course, the picture I've put up is a VW beetle isn't it! I chose it as a friendly looking little car that could have a tale! Glad it revived your memories! Rhiannon
