After the Snow

After the Snow
Sun sets over a sylvan skyline,
birdsong fades on bare boughs,
vulpine tracks of hunting paths,
life crawls post Yuletide sprawl.
January glints grey after snow,
hours creep, linger at twilight,
winter shadows form at dusk,
nights of fire and ancient songs.
Light dances on alabaster sheets,
rolling mist cloaks arcane hills,
breath fogs in the cold of night,
deer sounds and rustling bushes.
Dreams of spring for warmer days
as darkness cedes to scintillance,
morning star, coruscation at dawn
heralding a trillion burning candles.

A Thousand Splendid Suns
This makes me want to mention the book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. A cracking eye-opener of a novel which I've just finished reading again and which overlaps just a little with what I've been writing recently myself. However, I would never suggest that my stuff comes anywhere near the high standard of Khaled Hosseini's.

A beautiful tribute to this
A beautiful tribute to this season. I particularly enjoyed the final verse. We had a little hint of warmer days today.

Much there of the time of
Much there of the time of year, especially on brighter days. We've just been out in the countryside with the late afternoon shadows and glinting sunshine (which may form into a poem soon!)
The stars of the clear night well protrayed too. Rhiannon

A beautiful description of transition Paul. Loved that third stanza, but your whole poem captures a winter's scene perfectly.

I love your use of language
I love your use of language Paul - creating the imagery, of our cold January, the words rustling and foreshadowing the return of spring.
