Hope is not hope until there

 is nothing left to hope for,

 and faith is not faith until

  any belief in God is dead,

 and love is not love until it

  is tested by its own defeat.

   Yet through such doubts 

the soul and God may meet.

Thank you Jane. I have been fortunate in living with diferent religious - Buddhist and Christian, and spent a little time with Muslim Sufi's. What has always impressed me is how similar are the experieces when seeking god or the ultimate. The 'Dark Night' can be interpreted as the period of purgation, when the soul (or self) finally abandons the ego and opens to God.

With His Hope, His Faith, His Love, The soul and God may meet,

Thank you William. And of course you have got it! It is when we feel abadnoned that the opposite can  happen, if we can only let go of our own views and opinions - God or whatever means the good for us is always waiting there in the quite of the heart.

Looking into oneself, or abandoning it cannot give a certain way and knowledge of what is actual truth, to give faith, true hope, love.

Mystical feelings and yearnings towards the supernatural cant give any certain sound, in our ignorance and fallenness we need to have it communicated to us,  The Bible scriptures can be trusted as real revelation to help mankind if we will read carefully and prayerfully, and they show the way to faith, hope and love, through the Saviour provided, Jesus himself being called the Word of God also. Thanks Kris; the poem is my attempt to convey the spiritual crisis, when the self has nowhere left to go but in surrender. In the Judaic/Christian/Islamic religions this is a surrender to God; in Buddhism it is to an ultimate reality. Being an Anglican we just bake more scones.

William Blake - yes! Thanks Tom, and good to find someone who also appreciates that visionary. But as to being profound; alas, I have only learned what wisdom is not, and that is what is sold in the market place.
