Escape Stupidity

We’ll take the virus,
across the empty, the great empty,
the black, the void, the vacuum:
space.
A frontier no more final than finite.
The last of the fossil fuels being used
to reach escape stupidity,
we’ll make the desperate launch
into the dark.
It’s the last throw of dot-less dice:
we are betting the planet
on a single pair of treys,
on a broken jade over fences.
After the riots over seats
on the Starship Titanic,
those left behind to burn
and weep and moan,
will turn on one another.
Beyond Alpha Centauri,
beyond belief,
beyond our ken,
beyond the pale.
We are the virus.

Yes, we are, we are indeed.
Yes, we are, we are indeed. And the worst of us are almost certain to make that leap into the unknown, and all I hope is that when they get wherever they're going they meet the same fate as the human space travellers in 'Don't Look Up'. (If you haven't seen it - the fate was not a happy one.)

"A frontier no more final
"A frontier no more final than finite" Clever. I found the Sci Fi as ironic.
Your poem made me think Ewan! Tom
