It's Funny....

How it does not work, if a Manager is demoted. In general, a Manager is looked up, respected, offered a coffee, get more money, wear nicer clothes. 

To then, have the Manager then to be one of us, would be more than strange. It would not work, ever. I suppose it depends what made them come down to our level. If it was not by choice, then they would leave, but if they did not leave, it would be definitely awkward! They would see different practices that they would not usually see, or know about. The conversations would be different, depends on the Manager.

There would be various relief, when they left the room, I could not imagine, us ever getting used to it.

The Manager I have at the moment, I really like, we get on great, before he was one of us, but I can't imagine if he was no longer our Manager how it would be if he became one of us again.

one of the lads..or lassies. Getting a gaffer's job was seen as moving up and moving out. A bit like getting married.

I had a brilliant boss in my last ever job, we got on really well. We had the same sense of humour and he was a people person and understood me so well. I don't think I would have minded if he'd been demoted and we were working together...infact we'd very often talk about our private lives and lifes experiences during breaks in the canteen.

So I suppose it depends on the boss him or herself as to whether I'd get on with them. But you do have a valid point here.

That is Great Jenny that you had a lovely Boss. smiley There are lots of factors, a good boss gives respect and get respect back.  A good sense of humour and a people person is very important too.

I have got on with all my Bosses in my jobs, over the years. My first Boss they were 3 Directors and they all had brand new posh cars every 3 years and one of them after he had his car would give me a short lift to work it was from the bottom of the street to the top where work was, this would be after he had his car, brand new a month, then he would pick me up I usually sat in the back and like the Queen when we arrived at work, I would wave to the smokers like I was the Queen (he didn't see me wave) in the 10 years that I worked there, he never gave anyone else out of the 120 workers a lift just me. So I went in his brand new Mercedes Benz, till they all 3 three,  years later got their Fab brand new Jaguars .... and IF my menory serves me well three years later they all had Rolls Royce after that, all three of the Directors were millionaires the Man who gave me a lift, his Wife was also one of the Directors. A First he didn't like me, but when he got to know me, he did and when I was about to leave 10 years later, to go to University, he said," if in the future things don't work out, you have a job here."  I didn't go back.    

My Boss, before the Boss I have now she didn't like me at first either, but I was just myself,  genuine and one day a year before Covid she said to me with the one who is my Boss now, "When I come downstairs from my office into this office and you are not here but off, the atmosphere in this office is aweful, you can cut it with a knife, and no one is talking, But when you are here, and when I come into this office, everyone is happy and the atmosphere is great and lighthearted, everyone is laughing and happy" I said, "Really?" She said, "Yes" that was really good to know. On the back of that revolation, I then went upstairs to her office and said, "I'm not leaving, but would you mind doing me a reference?" She said "Absolutely" When she finished it she called me up to her office and gave me a sealed envelope and said, "Here it is," I have also sent it to you in an email, so you can read what I have written." I read it and I could not have written a better reference about myself if I was to do one. Finally after 10 years of working with her, she knew and experienced the real me, for that I was thankfull. When Covid happened, she had to leave with two other co-workers due to her ill health, and then she retired.

My Manger now, he is Awesome. He is 10 out of 10 he is young enough to be my grandson. Outside in the World, we have nothing in common, but at work, we have respect for each other. That makes for a great working environment. I can't praise him enough.
