Yearnings fill this colourful male

with pleasure, nothing more

beautiful than plumage so rare;

not a silent birthright when caught

in a dance of passion, those hypnotic

dilating eyes asserting his position,

a bower capturing love.

 

His enchantment a poem rich and

rare, conjures a smile...secrets

hidden in burning sun. Female

accepts his advances, then in the

twinkling of an eye the deed is done.

Oh my goodness - what a peculiar bird!! The eye thing is just so bizarre! Thank you for this Jenny - it's certainly something that will stay with me now I've seen it!

Hi insert, that video was one of many, I did have one of the Bower bird mating, but I lost it and couldn't find it again, so stayed with this video. Thank you for your comment and the lovely cherries, much appreciated.

That's incredible Jenny. Thanks for sharing. 

The video clip reminds me of a pub I used to frequent in Leeds.

I love your accompanying poem too. The words offer a great description of the bird and its habits.

Ha! Ha! laugh I can just imagine all those men eyeing up the women and hoping to turn a girl's head at that pub. You always give me a smile with your witty sense of humour.

I'm glad the words offer an insight in to what I'm imagining while watching the video, though I do wish I could have found the original video of them mating at the end.

I can't understand why David Attenborough has never taken his film crew to the Tommy Wass on Dewsbury Road. A pub famed for its great range of pupil dilation.

Ya Good Point Mr. T.... yes

Does BBC fund that type of film safari w/ Dave (?)  #Tommy Wass pub........ I thought the pupil dilation there was from hang'n out in the bog w/ the other Tommy when he roles in from his Colombia hiatus.... not danc'n for the birds there..... or is that both?.... uff... its a blurr anyway. I'll stick with David Attenborbough BBC vid & Jenn's soul moving poetry.......  

Either way.... it makes for a great show, comedy for sure.....wink

Hi Kris, it's great to hear from you again. Your busy life must be settling down now that Christmas is nearly here.

Thanks for the laugh.. laugh Imagine men parading their feathers to ladies they're attracted too...what a sight that would be, especially at the pub.

What I find fascinating is how colourful the males are, yet how drab the female is. But she must be beautiful in her own special way.

Ummm..... I dont know if you know this, maybe you've herd some gossip.... but..ahh... some of us men have what is know as the 'Male Ego'....surprise.... it may, at times, kinda, portray, manifest its self as a type of feather dance, sometimes smooth, sometimes awkward, sometimes boisterous and then some (for example at the pub)... And sometimes some men will get distracted by another mans bravado when they are chat'n up the ladies, like the video, but then again some dont.... Hence I relate to the poem & video..... ahhumm.... not a confession there, kinda, just say'n we all love the Poem & BBC video, its just that some us that function on the male software operating system w/ the single auto Bravado App, may relate to it a bit differently than the Womans operating system with the multi-view app's......... In the sense, for me, the one that got away in the video, in a poetic sense- of course.... blush (smile Jenn) wink..... what ever the case, the fans here 'Flock' to your poem and love the video*

it certainly must take a lot of patience to wait for the right moment to film the spectacular show this bird puts on, not only in his dance, but also in the burrow that it builds too, waiting for that all important female to arrive.

I love how your poem somehow shares a similar colourful momentum to this striking bird's performance. The ending is perfect, the whole piece, a fitting tribute to his extaordinary show and dedication to getting a mate.

What a lovely comment Jane. The poem was actually meant to go with another video of the Bower bird mating at the end, but I lost it and couldn't find it again, so stayed with this one which I loved too.

Like you say the colours are striking and very noticeable up against the green foilage...no wonder the female is so attracted by the plumage and hypnotized with those dilating eyes. wink

Just one of the marvels of nature.
