Cashier with the human touch

As the cashier handed over your change, you picked up on somethinng. The accompanying smile and mesmerizing look in your eyes lasted a bit too long for them to be meaningless. "have a nice day", has never sounded so melodic to your discerning ears. Your heart skipped a beat and a swarm of butterflies engulfed you. It's been ages since a stranger made you feel so so special and desireable. It takes more than the ordinary to excite you. The cashier has made your day. Finding him cost you your appetite. getting someone out of your head has never been harder.
You used to dislike that store, but not anymore. Repeat visits became your favourite pastime. Each time, you picked up just a few items; most of which you dont really need. Nevertheless, you constantly ignored the Express till, just to join his queue. Even though it often meandered endlessly with other shoppers whose trolleys contain loads of groceries.
On one occasion, you displayed frustration because you were unable to locate a product. He read your anxiety and offered to help. But he could'nt. It was not his department. He recruited a colleague who turned out to be clueless. The cashier scampered about the shopfloor a few times but without any luck. He then made a few internal calls which pointed him in the right direction. "You're a superstar!" you gushed in gratitude. You wrestled with the temptation to pour out your heart to him there and then.
In an age where most organizations' customer services lack the human touch, this cashier has proved to be a breath of fresh year. He has gone the extra mile by touching your life. Now, you just want to reciprocate.
Ocasionally, you have been tempted to slip him a note with your digits as you hand him your cash, but you resisted. Probably too shy, or too timid to risk being embarrassed if he decline, in the full view of the queue. You have even toyed with the idea of Change Your Faith, "to the delightful eye-candy who took my cash and stole my heart....Drink?", but you dismissed it with a grimacing face. That's not your style. The time is right only when you meet him, another time and in another place, you assured yourself.
When that happens, if it does, if he remembers you or treat you with the same consideration and grace, more power to you. But if not, don't take it personal.
It may be hard to come to terms with , but there was probably nothing personal about the way he served you on the shopfloor. It was purely business. The so-called "human touch" that he meted out to you was the culmination of the painstaking coaching and training that he had undergone.
So, dont expect him to give you the cold shoulder, if you find the dutch courage to return after the ordeal. It will be business as usual. However, never forget that when someone seems too good to be true, he/she normally is.
