If

If you can cope with all the hullabaloo
that’s bound to come in a week or two,
when you’ll find you are being lied to
and being told they’ll look after you,
there is one thing that you must do:
suspect that their promises aren’t true.
If you believe that that chap, Cameron,
will make the economy better (but anon)
ask yourself whether it’s yet another con.
The bitter pill that is masked as a bonbon
may be swallowed long after he’s gone,
deluding yourselves that you have won.
If you’re approached by that party, UKIP,
whose leader give some people the pip
and who is forever prompt with a quip
-in between a cigarette puff and a sip-
and you feel that you’re losing your grip
you might be in need of a helpful tip.
If you are in despair, relief is at hand;
your saviour’s name is Ed Miliband.
His critics describe him as quite bland
and with his head buried in the sand,
though others think him a firebrand
who is going to revitalise the land.
If you fancy someone who has phlegm
perhaps you are looking to a Lib-Dem
to discover a precious and rare gem
but there are not too many of them.
Growing unpopularity they must stem
if they want to be la crème de la crème.
If you have faith in men without a sin,
there is no certainty that you will win;
those politicians possess a thick skin.
Soon they will make your head spin
and if you think that they’re your kin,
you’re a better man than me Gunga Din!

Luigi, you are an ..
Luigi, you are an ...influence. I was trying to tear myself away from Abc. But some years ago I wrote my own 'If' and now feel moved to post it. I agree with your ending!

I'm not sure if many of us
I'm not sure if many of us are going to be able to stomach it. Where have all the genuinely impassioned, caring politicians gone? They all seem to be master-minding their own careers, bah!

You sum up current politics
You sum up current politics well and with great humour. Pity our current bunch of politicians don't have a little more humour.
