a moment of lightning

I always thought of you in the twilight of winter
when
purple skies glowed with the aftermath of the winter sun.
Books askew upon my desk that were bathed in time
ran through my dreams that began long before I knew you,
long before the wheels of my soul touched the earth.
Winter wool and patterns from memories long before I was born
flew through the wings of a swan from an eternal moment
that held its breath
before i could speak.
Then,
before a pause ,
before moments and seconds were born,
I found within a raindrop the whisper of the wind
and hemmingway lost in an icelandic dream.
Lives intertwined and weaved in destinies we could not see.
Paths crossed then made their own pattern
into places only the seagulls knew.
One moment before hemmingway and your sagas collided,
keats ran through the world of jane eyre
and wuthering heights stole the poetry of shakespeare before we could speak,
before the sky improvised matisse,
before it all spiraled into moments of leaving and pain.
The sea wove songs for you and stared into the blue of your eyes,
a swirl of sand upon a beach,
a seal wondering if it had wings to fly,
and then you
holding my eyes in a moment when lightning ran through the snow.
