Bosco Verticale

In
the heart of Milan two
towers were built,
aiming
high for the sky.
Their design modern
and bold.
A symbiosis between
architecture and nature
we are told
as the skyscrapers carry
more than nine-hundred
species of trees on terraces.
These will absorb CO2
from the atmosphere
and produce oxygen
much needed
here
in a city that's said
to be the most polluted
in the Italian peninsula.
Bright pink flowers *
will burst out in the spring
and people will enjoy
the perfume they bring.
Some love this creation
others hate it
and call it an abomination.
The whole nation
will continue to debate
ad infinitum.

That looks much better in the photo than the structure (block of flats) that was built near me some years ago - the plants all died almost immediately, and I don't think they were ever replaced, so it just looks awful now

Nice to see such lengths to get more trees there, must be very pleasurable and beneficial if you're living in the concrete. Just amazed they can get deep enough roots. Rhiannon
