Surrender
P K Routray
With bowed head and bent knee
surrenders a vanquished enemy
to the king the victor
trembling for any frenzied order..
This conception of this surrender
from the tales of my grand mother
ruled me over silencing my then childhood query
“Why does not the vanquished pray for His mercy?”
Observed I a child’s surrender
to his all-powerful loving mother
with fearless laughter
as if it finds its Lord in her.
With growing age and ripening wisdom
realised I the Lord as all powerful and awesome,
Over the scriptures I surveyed for an answer
as to what is the feel of the real “Surrender?
To get the ultimate wisdom and happiness perpetual
“Surrender the man must to the Lord unconditional
With his desires finding no deviation
from the will of the Lord of the creation
accept man must without an iota of protest
every occurrence as His boon for him the best.
With unflinching faith in the Lord
His protection, man must always feel assured.
With gratitude to the Lord for everything
His greatness the man must joyfully sing
On this earth with empty hands man landed
everything here to him the lord has handed
on such surrenders man should be proud never.
Thus to the Lord the man defines his surrender.
