Three Children

So it was that each of the three danced,
One near the warmth of a hearth,
Another over a hungering grave,
Third upon the stars entranced.
As was they compelled drawing near,
First never so much far apart,
Other locked in peaceful desolation,
Last cast down from the heavens in tears.
For they are the crux of penance,
Guilt subsumed the eldest,
Avarice followed blindly in the second,
Youngest consumed by it's ignorance.
These three children serve a cautionary treasure,
Where the first desires only vanity,
Middle all the riches of the world,
Last the intoxication of carnal pleasure.
Give not to the three your life's purpose,
One shall leave you empty and alone,
Another while wealthy without happiness,
Final while wanted is never truly loved.
Rue the day should they come your way,
For once bound by one is to be bound by all,
To which you can never be free nor flee from their consequences.
