I love to sit and watch....
I watch the decorations being hung - I watch, I'm never asked, my opinion does not matter she is the expert, not even catching my eye for approval - she knows the task inside out ...and she has her helpers ....i'll watch
I watch the imitation fire flickering just seeing it makes me feel warm inside.
I watch as the tree is erected, green and bare and its base held firm ....but soon will be sparkling bright - alight !
I watch the baubles stars chocolates and gifts being hung from the branches - as always, I try to guess what's been decided to adorn the top.
I watch as the stockings are hung, one each side of the fire place. a tangerine , stick candy and a mince pie for Santa.
I watch - as the gifts are placed neatly around the base, step back and view - rearrange and rearrange again , it has to look perfect - red blue silver shiny boxes with gold ribbon and bows - shapes sizes you can try to guess what's inside? the shapes the mystery what do we wish for or wish to give.
I watch and then ...I smell the chestnuts and as I smile, I'm thrown one or two. I sit peel and enjoy - I warm my hands and peel ....slow.
I watch as the lights turn on - flashing, marching a spiral up the tree and this year a star...a star ! a great choice a great star to guide the way.
i watch... a surprise new feature this year - a laser light scattering dots around all over like a snow storm of colour ....the walls the floor all over no escaping - fast festive crazy the light can even spell out words .....
I watch as the imitation snow is sprayed on the window pane ...the last few touches, ...a traditional paper chain.
I watch as all stand back to enjoy the view - what a display ...its done !
The gifts below the tree with tags £59.00...£79.00,,,£399.00....,the people form a line....I zip up my bag rest my back against the cold wall - I extend my arm and open my hand.
I watch....as they pass by hoping they will catch my eye.
