I am someone's wife,
someone's mother, 
daughter, sister, friend...
but to this end,
I am my own person.
 
I choose my clothes 
for comfort.
I'm not interested in
what's hot,
what not to wear,
which new style 
I simply must do my hair.
Judge me if you like
for my style of dress,
I must confess...
I don't care.
 
People are my concern.
Animals...
the living, breathing earth.
Frustrated by her struggles,
I feel the pain of plight.
There's no right...
It feels wrong, 
so much attention 
on mundane vanity,
and seeking fame 
on virtual insanity.
I shake off the shackles 
put upon me by society
and grasp my freedom 
to choose who I want to be.
and who I want to be 
is love and peace.
 
You don't have to love me
or even really like me. 
I don't seek approval from man,
only divine power 
deserves that place. 
So don't judge me.
Don't begrudge me 
frail imperfections,
If you look, you'll see it's clear
that I have good intentions.
 
I am the sum of my experiences.
A tapestry of tragedies,
of merriment and triumphs.
Threads of sadness
weaving through happiness.
A rainbow of emotions 
where I've lived life completely.
I am my father, my mother, my sister and brother,
my culture, my religion,
a one woman nation.
A sun in my own universe,
the gravity to my world.
 
Ever changing seasons 
swirl new colours 
and evolving sensations 
You can't stop the spring blossoms blooming,
nor the autumn leaves falling,
can't deny my feelings,
or the dawn chorus calling. 
 
Stop the beat of my heart or 
the thoughts in my head.
Just try and take away my life - 
I won't be dead!
I live on through my mother, my sister, my daughter, 
connected in levels that are more than just cellular.
 
Embrace me, respect me, 
allow me my own purity 
and self adorned chastity. 
I'll wear them with pride -
not to hide
or to put on a show,
but to demonstrate my expectation 
of your respect for my right to say
"no".
 
I'm not just your daughter, your sister, your mother...
your wife.
I am a person
Let me paint with boldness 
and create 
and live my own life.

I love this and so would Bee. It's so hard for women when absolutely everything gets sexualised. Sadly I think it might be getting worse. Are we our own worst enemies? Occasionally but mostly we're not, just trying to survive and be all and expect nothing.

Who are the enablers? Society is breeding vanity, that's why I need to go now so I can get a facelift, I just saw my selfie, it looks awful.

Yes, it is a lovely poem, well written and a great tribute to dear Bee.  She would be so thrilled to see how much talent you have inherited.  She will never be forgotten because she touched so many lives. I often think about her with regret that she is no longer with us.
